It’s Sunday morning and I am feeling nostalgic about my life in New York. So, with my cold brew and energy high, i’ve decided to document what a perfect Sunday would look like if you were hanging in my old neighborhood: Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
Start your morning (or early afternoon) with the best coffee in the neighborhood - Sweatshop. Treat yourself to a cappuccino or cold brew. Tell my mates that Conner says ‘hi’ and misses his daily coffee ritual.
After you caffeinate and have a little more pep in your step, it’s time to brunch. Here are a few options!
Cafe Mogador - middle-eastern spot, very popular, very delicious. My go-to is the middle-eastern breakfast. Hummus, fresh bread, tabbouleh, and a small salad. Their OJ is fresh-squeezed and delish.
Le Barricou - french bistro style in East Williamsburg. Also very popular, also very delish. My go-to is their croque madame. Nothing quite cures the hangover as well as this.
Five Leaves - a mix of a menu, located on the border of Williamsburg and Greenpoint at the top of McCaren Park. The Moroccan scramble is a fan fave and Ricotta Pancakes if you have a sweet tooth.
Now that you’re fed, it’s time to explore. First stop: walk down the water and take in the epic views of Manhattan. At East River Park there is often something going on, perhaps the Brooklyn Flea. Either way, it’s a great way to spend an hour.
If you’re ready for your second coffee, which I certainly would be if I were you. I suggest taking a stop at Devocion. The decor is as beautiful as the coffee. There are two locations in the world, one in Bogota and one in Williamsburg. They roast their coffee and it smells amazing.
It’s no surprise that in New York, a huge part of the culture is around hanging in bars or throwing back a few bevvies. My fave Sunday locations are:
Spritzenhaus 33 - this hipster beer hall is a great place to hang with friends. I had my birthday party here a few years ago. In the summer they open all of the windows. They have big tables with games.
Radegast - Similar to Spritzenhaus but closer to a lot of the main shopping in Williamsburg. Great place to hang out on a Sunday.
Because it’s Sunday, it’s unlikely that you will want to go “out out”. My favorite thing to do on a Sunday evening is see a movie, and my favorite place to see a movie is Nighthawk. This movie theater is quaint, serves food & drink, and always has a great running of current and hipster movies.
Enjoy your day in my favorite neighborhood.
